lets spread the love!!!!

Wednesday, August 20, 2008 – 7:07 AM
firstly i have to apologize for being MIA for the past few days i had some trouble with the internet connection in my house and so have been cut off...
well it has been relaxing but i have got back on just in time for a historic moment in indian sport and i am from the bottom of my heart CONGRATULATING both Sushil, Vijender for the medals they have secured. Vijender is still in the hunt for gold and i am hoping that he can do it... I always said we would win more and am thrilled now that we have more champions to rejoice about and actually i can be part of the celebration.
I can also give them some tips on how to do some interviews since that is all i have been doing since i have returned and now am happy that the attention will be given where it is now due.
On a personal note i am actually enjoying catching up on some much needed slumber it is a welcome treat after years of waking up at 6am and heading out to train.

(Using your blog to make my Indian Boxing thoughts heard)

India's Raging Bull - Congrats!!!

The question I have for you now is how do people like me contribute, say $1000/yr to keep the "fire within" alive. I want this to be a beginning of a new era - to have a plan and framework to have Sustainable dominance in the world boxing/shooting arena; Beaureacracy free boxing/shooting organizations (No KPS Gill BullSh*t please) with chosen trainers training young boys. Some corporate giants taking up the financial responsibility and setting up a Indian Boxing/Shooting budget under some "Corporate Social Responsibility" campaign wouldn't hurt either. Moreover I personally think Shooting and Boxing both have immense potential for high TRP ratings (and hence some millions being poured into the games) - and then we'll have a Indian "Boxing" Premier League - Punjab Bulls Vs Mizoram Smoothies....

This is for the kind attention of all Indians

We are a nation of 113 crore strong - one sixth of the total world population and should we feel so delirious having won a solitary Gold medal and a single Bronze in the Beijing Olympics?

A total of 663 medals have been won in the present Olympics so far in various events and our share is only 2 medals whereas China has won 77 (with 44 Gold), USA 79 medals (with 26 Gold), Great Britain 36 medals (with 16 Gold), Australia 35 (with 11 Gold) ………….. Even much smaller countries like Indonesia and Cuba have performed much better than us.

Such poor performance at the Olympics each time should be a time for serious introspection by those in power as well as each individual of this country as to where all we have been going wrong as an independent country.

We have failed to provide the required world class sports training facilities and a healthy sporting environment to our youth even after 60 years. A sports culture is almost missing in our country. We are happy to be crazy only about the game of cricket and bollywood movies at the cost of ignoring and losing in all other games and sports.

A country’s performance in Olympics is actually a good indicator of the health of that nation and the well being of its people. Unfortunately by our poor performance in each Olympics, we project a very negative image of our country and ourselves to the entire world . This is nothing to be proud of. We do not take this colossal failure of ours seriously at all. We must do everything in our power to change that mindset.

it is not enough just to hurriedly declare a prize money of 50 lacs or one crore for the winner after he or she has won a medal while at the same time holding back the badly needed encouragement, help and back up to all the budding and promising sports persons for preparation and training on a consistent basis for many years at school and college levels much before the actual Games.

Belated congratulations on your gold, Abhinav. And what a fabulous day for Indian sports fans. Absolutely fantastic performances by Sushil and Vijender. Hope this years medal haul by the three of you awakens the olympic spirit in India for 2012. Its pathetic that in a country of billion people, one cricket gets all the money and attention, while the athletes who succeed in other sports do it despite the astounding lack of support, facilities and finances.
Here is hoping that 2008 marks a big turning point thanks to the inspiration provided in part by you.

Wasn't it just too good a day today at Olympics?!! You finally have company, Abhi. Great show by Vijender and Sushil.

The best thing about the three victories are that these were sports not many of us were interested in. (i c'd never bring myself to watch boxing before, but I did today because I wanted to watch an Indian win.) You three sure have opened the doors to a very bright future for shooting, wrestling, and boxing in India. Great show, guys.

While it is nice to know that all those who come back with an Olympic medal turn national heroes overnight, just wish those who were unlucky are not forgotten. All of you are equally deserving.

p.s. Abhi, I have become a regular reader of your posts, and you are the first person whose posts i've started replying to. You have a very enviable way of writing. Looking forward to more posts, Hero...

Just now, i was watching star news n these people r so damn crazy. They r showing that ur dad is a millionaire n sushil's n vijyender's dads are drivers, this that. And yeah they r showing that all of u were born in 83 when India won the World cup.So it was a very important year for the future sports of india.Well i think u were born in 82 and not 83. Crazy people, hv to make stories.

Anyways really happy for you. Well its about a month left for our birthdays.Looking forward to wishing you.

Great comment from 'Blogger'(10th comment or so...).

As he said, Olympics is an indicator of the health of a country's people. Our poor performances in comparison with other countries only goes to show how bad a sporting nation we are.

Sports make your body stronger, refreshes your mind, and aids to a healthy life. Different sports offer different challenges and opportunities to test and improve different faculties of a person. Cricket is a good sport, but there are so many other ones too.

The main problem - we lack the sporting culture. There are few grounds... in a single ground you have around 10 parallel cricket matches. Thats what you see in India.

You need to have basic facilities for every sport in every region so that kids can play different games and reap different benefits. We must all recognize the importance of sport in life and change our lifestyle.

Don't be sad that we are not winning medals. Instead, go have a jog in the morning, enrol in some sporting club and play, realise how much sport can help you in your life. Maybe your kids might get inspired from you and who knows, they might become great Olympians someday...

Well what other sport do you enjoy other than SHooting?
Congrats to Sushil and Vijender,But let me tell you one thing dear,You are Golden Boy of India and will always be FOREVER!!
Thanks and enjoy the limelight

CONGRATS to You, Sushil and Vijender and thanks for the medal that you have given to our country by sincere hardwork and deligence.
Finally, we some respect for our indigenous game wrestling. It was great to see that today’s headlines in every newspaper covered the achievement of India in Olympics and it was not just another discussion on India’s cricket match .
Actually media never bothers to cover these events when held at international level .I really felt very hurt when entire front page of newspaper discussed on Indian hockey teams performance saying “HUMILIATED; INDIAN HOCKEY TEAM FAILED TO QUALIFY IN OLYMPICS “ when THEY DO NOT WRITE EVEN A ONE FOURTH PAGE STORY ON THEIR VICTORY TO ENCOURAGE THEM HOW DO THEY CRITICIZE THEM FOR THEIR FAILURE

For KUMAR N

Many thanks for your comments.
I would like to say the follwing here:

Certainly we should feel happy and proud over these achievements of our sports persons and must give the highest honor to Abhinav Bindra and other medal winners for their outstanding performance in world's greatest sports arena.

Their wins gain special importance keeping in view the years of dedicated hard work and efforts put in by them all alone without help and support form the government or any other quarter.

It would not be wrong to say that they have won despite a government and society which is only good at nipping all talent and creativity in the bud.

While celebrating these few and far in-between victories, we must pause seriously and frequently to think what ails us and our nation that our track record in Olympics is and has been so poor for over a century.

We (our government) must examine this colossal failure on our country's part very deeply and thoroughly and take immediate real concrete steps (not just talk about it)to give due importance to sports at all levels nation wide so that in years to come we too have many world class champions who can win gold medals by the dozen and we are not put to shame for a dismal performance in each Olympics every four years.

As a national we badly need to wean ourselves away from our extreme craze for and total pre-occupation with the game of cricket and the Bollywood trash. That is most unhealthy. We must pay attention to all other games and sports and direct our energies in setting up, learning and playing them as well.
It is never too late to start a good thing !

Hi Abhinav,

I feel the seventh comment by Anubhav Sharma on this post contains a great suggestion that could be transformed into something very big if considered seriously.A shooting/Boxing/Wrestling League matching the standards of IPL backed by corporates.I speak of IPL only to throw some light on the nature of the teams or representations in the contest.Hopefully, someone with the means and resources to bring it to live will take note of his suggestion. It will mean a great shot in the arm not just for those sports and Olympics participation ,but will make the investing corporate great midterm and long term profits from advertising revenues due to TRP.Abhi, I hope you don't miss that comment (7th from top)

I was wondering if you thought you were having a greater impact on equality by participating and perpetuating in it's removal or if you even cared at all that by the 2010 Olympics well over 2010 people will have been killed so you can perform your(drugfree)best...but your refusal to be used this way could starting saving those lives today.
