In search for some normalcy.....

Thursday, August 14, 2008 – 6:39 PM
I won the gold and my world has exploded. I like to keep to my self with my familiar comforts. While the attention is flattering, at the same time there is this constant glare of scrutiny which I can really do without. I am so looking forward to being home in my familiar comfort zone. I have flirted with the idea of donning a disguise and running away for a month till the euphoria passes and life gets to normal. Unfortunately that’s not an option just as of now. But hey, it’s a fun fantasy.
I am happy to know that air guns are running off the shelves across India. From the many will come the few who can be groomed to go all the way. However, I would like to caution all potential shooters out there that firearms are not toys. Prudence is essential in their use. Please be careful not to cause hurt to any living creature.

Hi, This is my second comment in your blog so not writing much about the congratulations part, except 'congrats once again' :-)

thing is, many of us want to be the centre of attraction even with out any talent :P .... now that you have got it, try to embrace it with out forgetting who you are. More than anything I am happy that all the crazy attention from the cricket players is off and is on you now. Hope to see all other sports are encouraged too in India

I wonder why the same old boring questions are being asked of you. I'm sure youngsters in particular and everyone in general would be eager to know who your role models have been, what's your favourite book/author and how does one cope when one works very hard and luck does not favour them. Also, how did you balance studies and sports?

Congratulations once again!

Yeah...shooting will become the fancy and rage. At least for a while. In any case, it would be good to take away some attention from "The Monster" game of India. See.. even the series loss in Lanka was not a big deal to any one.

Thanks for your part.

My dear friend,

I don’t know the appreciation of a man who resides far away from your state will arouse your feeling or attention. But, one among the millions of Indians, I too have the right to greet the pride of the country. Your calm countenance and responses immediately after winning the covetable gold medal were the most inspiring visuals for me and the people belonging to my state- Kerala. We were the people who lamented for the loss of an Olympic medal in the sprint item. If our progeny P.T. Usha had won the medal, she would have been the first to adorn the prestigious status that you bear now.

But, my dear Bindra, you deserve the covetable gold that you achieved by toiling upward while others slept. You can be proud that the people of Kerala, the gods own country now looks you as the hero who succeeded in fulfilling the dream of Keralites. It’s our coach who led you on your way to the peak. Thanks Bindra for quenching our thirst to see a gold medal in Olympics…

Kudos my dear friend
Yours Lovingly

Hi Abhinav,
Congrats & wish you a very, very happy Independence Day.The timing for the two celebrations to coincide couldn't have been more perfect.I think this is the first time i'm responding to someone's blog,i didn't write even when my favourite player Rafa Nadal won the Wimbledon title, but such is the magnitude of your feat that i couldn't keep myself away.I know you might not be having any time right now with all the media men running behind you and all the hoopla, but there's no doubt in my mind that you will keep your feet on the ground, despite all the money being showered on you.And i consider myself lucky, indeed all of the 1.25+ billion of us lucky to have got the chance to be a part of witnessing this incredible history.Congrats again and best of luck for the future.Nothing could be sweeter than seeing you defend that gold in London 2012.I hope that dream will come true as well.

Normally, people are low in their spirits once faced failure, but I applaud you for proving that wrong. yeah, I know this sounds much more like what you are hearing for the whole day ever since this great achievement. keep up with this passion of yours. May success lighten the roads of your life all years to come.... Hey Abhinav,

Even though India has performed well in shooting in Asian games & Commonwealth Games, this sport hasn't really enjoyed much popularity with masses. Just a thought- you have a golden chance to popularize this sport in India; something similar to what Vishwanathan Anand has done for Chess.

Best wishes. Cheers,
Megha

P.S.- Heard that sales of guns have increased considerably in Chandigarh (my home town too)!

Happy Independence day! You gave us another reason to celebrate, hearty congratulations for a tremendous achievement. Your ability to maintain composure throughout the event defines the winner in you.I only wish to see many more Abhinavs, scripting their names into history pages in not just shooting, but hockey, tennis and games far more exciting than cricket. Enjoy your moment to the fullest...

When I wanted to represent my school in my inter-school competition, I was told that I had to be among the top two. So, when I won the second place in the long-jump event, still I could not represent my school because the third prize winner had a chance of winning the individual championship. So, coming from a background like that, millions of Indians like me know that this feat is truly extra-ordinary. Keep it up! And the adulations are the voice and feelings of a medal starved nation exploding. Please bear with it atleast for today. Tomorrow, maybe you could go ahead with that disguise plan :-)

This independence day you gave us a reason to celebrate.Apart from your victory, your persona inspires us to yearn for "the impossible",work hard for it and finally achieve it irrespective of the discouragements that you might have to face. You have set a model for Indians not to be carried away by success. After reaching the summit you can inspire others who are struggling to reach there.I am sure you have a greater vision and right spirit to do that. Please don't think of retiring from the media & the public b'cos you are a source of inspiration to the nation's largest resource i.e. Human resource.May God help you to achieve more and give you the wisdom to remain just as you are, which makes you distinct from other succcessful people.

Congrats Abhinav. I know this old man is very late in congratulating you, because I never knew that you had a blog. One of our Mallu bloggers has now brought this to my notice.

Do you know Abhinav what our Kerala Sports minister has done on hearing your success story? He went on declaring that 2 acres of land (200 cents) will immediately be allotted for the development of a shooting site in Kerala. Definitely, he may not have seen your shooting-practice-lab. This bloody fool has not Electricity to the house of Prija Sreedhar in kerala. As you know Prija got selected to the Olypics for the marathan race just because of her, only her, hard work like you. And Prija is still in BPL (Below poverty line) state. What a pity. Don't you feel it?

I wish Indian government start focussing on improving sports standards, private organisations also start sponsoring other events other than "Cricket" which seem to have become the only sport left in our country.

I hope, your success opens their eyes and force them think that there are other sports also where we can excel and make a name like you did.

I hope, Indian government starts giving financial help to those who are good in sports other than Cricket.

I hope, the Indian Govt starts does something to produce Sports Heros like you, to represent the 2nd most populous country in the world and make us proud with their achievements.

I only hope and wish....
